[…] Yahoo! Hack Day has wrapped up and Michael from TechCrunch has the complete low down as he was there judging projects. The overall winner was a group of developers who created a project dubbed “Blogging in Motion”, which is simply a device that takes a picture every few steps and then blogs the pictures to Flickr via an API. […] […]

[…] The fairly small device fits easily inside a mid-size woman’s purse, with the camera lens poking through a hole in the front. The team’s blog can be found here; it seems that BIM is working just fine. […]

[…] Project Runway season two designer Diana Eng took the top price at Yahoo Hack Day as part of an all women team who also included Emily Albinski and Audrey Roy. Their winning project, called “Blogging in Motion” combined a camera, a pedometer, a handbag, and the Flickr API to create a device that would snap a picture after every few steps and then automatically upload those pictures to a Flickr blog. The hidden camera portion is not original. Afterall, perverts have been making these for years to create upskirt pictures and take voyeur pictures at the beach. But the concept of combining a hidden camera with a pedometer and uploading it to a blog is quite original. As a proof of concept, this project works but I doubt if this device will ever find a market as using it will open the user up to all kinds of invasion of privacy lawsuits. […]

Sounds great - would love to know more about how you did it. I do really long walks and it would be great to have such a device that takes pictures every hour. See my latest attempt at www.geoffjones.com/GR5 and an earlier walk www.geoffjones.com/pennineway both using my Treo650
Would be interested in hearing from team member(s)
Cheers Geoff

[…] Black Box Nation, a team of three fashion designers turned hardware hackers, unanimously swept our first open Hack Day event by mashing together a purse fitted with a Nokia camera phone, Bluetooth GPS, a pedometer and Flickr’s Zonetag API. Every few steps, the purse snaps a photo and moblogs it, creating a photo diary of the day. Creators Diana Eng, Emily Albinski and Audrey Roy all get to fight over the 32″ plasma TV they won. And if Diana looks familiar to you, she was the nerdy aspiring fashion designer on Project Runway. More here. […]

[…] I wrote a bit about this mysterious girl last year when she got kicked off the 2nd season of Fashion Runway. This time, she and her girl geeks won the grand prize at Yahoo’s Hack Day challenge by mashing together a purse fitted with a Nokia camera phone, Bluetooth GPS, a pedometer and Flickr’s Zonetag API. Every few steps, the purse snaps a photo and moblogs it, creating a photo diary of the day. Essentially, a moblogging purse! Creators Diana Eng, Emily Albinski and Audrey Roy all get to fight over the 32-inch plasma TV they just won. […]

[…] Yahoo opened its corporate headquarters to hordes of hackers, press and others on Friday and Saturday for its open Hack Day. After 24 hours of hacking (with a break for a private Beck concert in the Yahoo courtyard the first evening), 54 projects were demo’d to the crowd of about 400 people. Over 3,000 pictures from the event tagged (’HackDay06″) are on Flickr here. […] The winning team, Black Box Nation, a group of hack-meisters from MIT, won hands-down with their “wearable”—a moblogging mash-up that combines a hand-bag decked out with a mobile phone, digital camera, GPS, a pedometer and the new Zonetag API. Mixing fashion, photo-blogging, maps and fun, Black Box Nation’s hack creates an automated photo blog, taking pictures at regular intervals, determining the wearer’s location and uploading them via Flickr. Check it out. […]
